Just nine months ago Paule Constable and I set up Women in Lighting. Today we have over 100 members!
We have set up an informative website and very popular networking site and renamed ourselves Women in Stage Entertainment or WISE.
WISE is now attracting female members from all over the world working in the lighting, audio, stage engineering, service and manufacturing industries. We’ve already been asked by Spinx – a women’s theatre group – to help light their conference at the Shaftsbury Theatre on June 12th.
WIL and WISE has attracted plenty of press interest including:
The Stage - A stronger voice for women working behind the scenes
Jim on Light – Women In Lighting – Take THAT, Y Chromosome!
The Stage – Women in Lighting teams up with Royal Court to offer lighting designer internship
The Stage – Constable sets up support network for women working in lighting
and has already been generously supported by the following companies:
Howard Eaton Lighting Ltd (HELL)
We are now looking to organize training initiatives, mentor and internship programmes and lobby for a gender equity and better working conditions in the industry for everyone.
We are also forming a steering committee and are currently looking for fund-raising and education members. Join us on our networking site and see what WISE can do for you.
Anyone who would like to get involved can contact me on: info@womeninlighting.com
